FIBROMYALGIA

 Fibromyalgia treatments

Fibromyalgia comes from the Latin word for fibrous tissue (fibro) and the Greek words for muscle "myo" and pain "algia". Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by chronic diffuse pain, often intense fatigue and sleep disorders. The causes of fibromyalgia are not known, however researchers have speculated that increased liver toxicity and/or bacterial overgrowth, genetic predisposition, abnormalities in the immune system, accidental injury or trauma to the muscle or repetitive injuries, sleep deprivation or other types of stressful or traumatic events could all be causative factors. Fibromyalgia can be also be worsened by external factors, including emotional stress, noise and changes in weather.

Fibromyalgia mainly affects women between the ages of 30 and 50 years of age.

TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR FIBROMYALGIA (FM)

There are no specific treatments for FM however some pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies are available to manage symptoms. As with many chronic conditions, a multidisciplinary approach tailored to each patient is best.

ENDERMOLOGIE FOR FIBROMYALGIA

Endermologie actively promotes a healthy circulation, increasing vascular circulation by 400% and lymphatic circulation by 300% for up to 6 hours post treatment. This creates increased oxygen exchange and releases toxins. It can also assist in breaking down the fibrotic adhesions, (scar tissue or knots) in the superficial fascia. Clinical studies have shown show that Endermologie provides relief of the pain, fatigue, morning tiredness, work difficulty, stiffness, anxiety and depression associated with fibromyalgia. Endermologie has also been found to improve sleep patterns, posture and allow an increase in the range of motion and overall quality of life.

As Endermologie is a gentle massage, using negative pressure, it is usually easier to tolerate than other, deeper forms of massage. Most people with Fibromyalgia report that they find Endermologie more comfortable than manual massage.

LPG ENDERMOLOGIE STUDIES

A pilot study with endermologie® was conducted in the United States with Dr Gordon, who specialises in physical therapy and rehabilitation. The study followed ten middle-aged patients who have lived with fibromyalgia for an average of 8 years. After undergoing 15 medical endermologie® sessions these patients reported significant improvement in functionality, pain, and patient satisfaction.
