Lipoedema & Lymphoedema Support with Endermologie®

Lipoedema & Lymphoedema Support with Endermologie®

Lipoedema vs lymphoedema. This post from @lipedema_fndn is great at explaining the differences between lipoedema and lymphoedema.

A gentle, evidence-informed approach to swelling, pain and tissue congestion

Lipoedema and lymphoedema are often misunderstood, misdiagnosed and emotionally challenging conditions. Many people spend years searching for answers, being told to “just lose weight” or “drink more water” – advice that does little to address what’s actually happening inside the body.

Both conditions involve changes in fluid movement, fat distribution, inflammation and connective tissue mobility, which can create discomfort, heaviness, swelling and reduced confidence or mobility. They require specialised care, not forceful or cosmetic approaches.

This page is designed to offer clarity, validation and supportive options that respect your body and your experience.

What is Lipoedema?

Lipoedema is a chronic condition characterised by the abnormal accumulation of painful, fibrotic fat, typically affecting the legs, hips, buttocks and sometimes the arms. It is not caused by diet or exercise, and weight loss alone does not resolve it.

Common symptoms:

  • Disproportionate limbs compared to torso
  • Symmetrical swelling or fullness in legs / hips / arms
  • Pain, tenderness and sensitivity to touch
  • Easy bruising
  • A feeling of heaviness or pressure
  • Fatigue or reduced mobility
  • Skin dimpling or fibrosis
  • Swelling that worsens throughout the day

Lipoedema is strongly influenced by hormonal transitions (puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause) and genetic predisposition. Many women say they felt dismissed, unheard or shamed before receiving appropriate support.

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. It usually only affects one limb or one area of the body (unilateral) – not both sides. It may result from:

  • Cancer treatment
  • Lymph node removal
  • Radiation therapy
  • Surgery
  • Infection or trauma
  • Genetic factors (primary lymphoedema)

Typical signs include:

  • Persistent swelling that does not fully resolve overnight
  • A heavy, tight or aching sensation
  • Skin thickening or hardness over time
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Clothing or footwear feeling tight

Without appropriate management, lymphoedema may progress – which is why early, gentle intervention matters.

How Endermologie can help

Endermologie is a gentle mechanical stimulation technology that supports lymphatic function, microcirculation and fascia mobility without pressure, heat, freezing, needles or trauma. This makes it appropriate for swollen, painful or sensitive tissues.

Endermologie has been shown to:

  • Increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues¹
  • Enhance lymphatic flow and fluid mobilisation²
  • Reduce swelling and limb volume in lymphoedema patients⁴
  • Improve tissue softness and breakdown fibrosis³
  • Increase mobility and comfort³
  • Reduce sensations of heaviness and congestion²
  • Support nervous-system regulation & reduce stress-related inflammation⁵

For many clients, the most notable change after treatment is lightness, mobility and reduced discomfort and over time, visible changes can become apparent.

What treatment feels like

Most clients describe Endermologie as:

”A gentle, rhythmic massage – comfortable, nurturing and relieving.”

It should never feel painful or aggressive.
Treatments are adapted session-by-session according to tissue response and client comfort.

Who can benefit

Endermologie may be supportive for those experiencing:

  • Lipoedema (all stages)
  • Primary or secondary lymphoedema (surgeon/physician cleared)
  • Post-cancer lymphatic changes
  • Before surgery to support lymphatic pathways, boost circulation and promote healing
  • Post-surgical swelling or fibrosis
  • Chronic inflammation or autoimmune-related fluid retention
  • Heavy, aching or painful limbs
  • Reduced mobility or comfort

It can be safely integrated with:

  • Physiotherapy or lymphatic drainage
  • Compression garments or bandaging
  • Exercise / strengthening
  • Manual scar therapy
  • Pneumatic pump or vibration therapy
  • GLP-1 medications
  • Oncology / post-cancer rehabilitation (medically cleared)

What to expect

A realistic outcome is:

  • Reduced swelling, puffiness and limb heaviness
  • Softer, less fibrotic tissue
  • Improved mobility and gait
  • Reduced discomfort or aching
  • Better tolerance for compression garments
  • More balance and connection in the body

An unrealistic outcome is:

  • A rapid dramatic transformation
  • “Fixing” the condition permanently
  • One treatment changing everything

Lipoedema & lymphoedema require long-term management – not urgency or force.

Timing & treatment rhythm

The best results come from rhythm and consistency:

  • 2 sessions per week initially
  • Progressively tapering to weekly, fortnightly or even monthly maintenance depending on response

Every plan is personalised based on fluid behaviour, tissue sensitivity and overall wellbeing.
